The national dish of Burundi is a corn meal porridge known by many names throughout Africa and the Caribbean. In Burundi it is called Mealie–Meal or Pap and it is usually served with a chicken and tomato stew seasoned with coriander, turmeric and oregano as well as onion and garlic.
